Tallow: What it is and why you need it

Tallow: What it is and why you need it

Who would have thought that beef tallow (aka beef fat) would be such a nourishing moisturizer for our skin? Tallow is extremely compatible to our own skin due to the similar fatty acid profile.

Why does our skin like tallow?

The membrane of our skin cells are approx. 50% saturated fat. Tallow is also about 50-55% saturated fat, which can directly provide our skin cells with what they need to produce that healthy, firm look and soft feel.

Why does the skin need fatty vitamins?

Sebum, which is an oily substance our skin produces, is made up of lipids (fats). 41% of these fats are in the form of triglycerides. The lipids in tallow are also mainly in the form of triglycerides. Tallow is loaded with fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K2, which provides additional nourishment to our skin.

At talloco, we source 100% of our tallow from US farms, from happy cows most often from the upper north west.
